The Railway, 1873
Gift of Horace Havemeyer in memory of his mother, Louisine W. Havemeyer) The exhibition featured 34 paintings by Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, and Gustave Caillebotte depicting the Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris and the nearby district of the city in the late 19th century. The paintings were exhibited with 20 related drawings, prints, photographs, a period map of the neighborhood, and 5 books. Manet's The Railway (Gare Saint-Lazare) (1872-1873) was featured in the exhibition, which also included all of Monet's 11 paintings of the Gare Saint-Lazare, on view together for the first time.
