Community outreach is a corporate priority with emphasis on maintaining and improving the quality of life in East Tennessee.

B&W Y‑12 strives to be a good corporate citizen by contributing funds to support local schools and educational activities, cultural and arts organizations and health and human service organizations. We give priority consideration to legacy-type grants that provide tangible, lasting investments in education and the community.

Some highlights of our recent financial and personal contributions include the following:

  • Organizing an annual Day of Volunteering where Y‑12 employees support community projects
  • Contributing more than $650,000 annually in employee donations and corporate contributions to the United Way program in 15 counties
  • Donating goods to Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties, cell phones for the Blount County Task Force Against Domestic Violence and coats for the Volunteer Ministry Center
  • Collecting more than $300,000 in goods and monetary donations from spontaneous employee contributions and corporate matching funds for disastrous events, such as September 11, the tornadoes that ravaged Morgan and Campbell counties, support for U.S. troops in Iraq, the worldwide Tsunami Relief Fund and Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief Fund
  • Investing in and attending local, state and national economic development summits and activities such as the Jobs Now regional economic development program
  • Contributing $30,000 annually to colleges and universities through the employee matching gift program
  • Committing $200,000 annually for 5 years to rennovate Oak Ridge High School School facilities, and exceeding the pledged amount
  • Establishing endowment scholarships at The University of Tennessee College of Engineering and with the East Tennessee Foundation for attendance at Pellissippi State Technical Community College or Roane State Community College
  • Committing $50,000 annually for 5 years to Project GRAD's “MOVE IT Math” program to assist Heart of Knoxville elementary and middle school students in excelling academically
  • Sponsoring the City of Oak Ridge’s Secret City Festival
  • Funding an annual Y‑12 employee volunteer project to add and renovate public facilities in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
  • Sponsoring annually more than 20 Y‑12 teams in fund raising events to benefit community charities
  • Significantly supporting the community campaign to provide robotic surgical capability at the Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center

In addition to these activities, B&W Y‑12 donates more than $450,000 annually to East Tennessee organizations. From supporting the Arts Council of Oak Ridge to providing happy holidays at Safe Haven, the company is helping to maintain the quality of life in the communities where Y‑12 employees and their families, customers and business partners live and work.
