SEE ALSO: 140th Meeting of the National Advisory Research Resources CouncilSeptember 16 During the September 16, 2008, meeting of the National Advisory Research Resources Council, NCRR Director Barbara Alving, M.D. will unveil the NCRR Strategic Plan 2009-2013. The discussion includes the presentation of a Web site that will track progress made under the plan. The agenda also features reports on a wide range of NCRR-supported activities, including those at the Proteomics Research Resource for Integrative Biology and the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. During this Council meeting, NCRR staff will report on its response to recommendations made in the 2007 evaluation of the Biomedical Technology Research Resources program. Additional reports will provide information on the progress of Working Groups that help to monitor and direct the activities of: 1) the National Synchrotron Light Source II, and 2) the NCRR-supported Chimpanzee Sanctuary. In addition, Dr. Alving will provide an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program update. The open session will conclude with the introduction of a planned workshop: Control of Select Pathogens in Animal Facilities, which will address problems and challenges with the detection, control, and elimination of emerging pathogens. DRAFT MEETING AGENDA (53KB PDF file, requires free Acrobat Reader) Biomedical Technology Research Resources and Resource Centers Principal Investigator MeetingNovember 1314 Thursday, November 13, 2008: Lister Hill Auditorium, NIH Biomedical Technology Research Resources and Resource Centers create critical, often unique technology and methods at the forefront of their respective fields, and apply them to a broad range of basic, translational, and clinical research. This is accomplished through a synergistic interaction of technical and biomedical expertise, both within the resources and through intensive collaborations with other leading laboratories. The P41 Principal Investigator Meeting provides an opportunity, once a year, for the leaders at the P41 sites to interact with each other and with the NCRR and NIBIB leadership. Investigators can highlight scientific progress at their site via a poster displayed on the first day of the meeting in the Lister Hill Auditorium lobby. The theme for this year’s two-day meeting is “Multiscale Technologies for Biomedical Research.“ READ MORE Eleventh RCMI International Symposium on Health DisparitiesDecember 14 The Eleventh RCMI International Symposium on Health Disparities will be held December 1-4, 2008, at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The theme of the symposium Research Outcomes Accelerating Discoveries for Medical Applications & Practice (ROADMAP) embraces the tenets of the NIH Roadmap. The symposium will feature activities within the RCMI programs aimed at reducing and eliminating ethnic and racial disparities in health through basic, clinical and translational science. The symposium will also feature keynote lectures by individuals who have made seminal contributions to improving health and empowering vulnerable populations and marginalized communities. Scientific sessions will consist of platform and poster presentations and workshops will be offered that have been designed to provide attendees with scientific- and career-enhancing skills.
