Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee

The Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee was formed in June 2007.

The purpose of the committee is to review existing scientific literature to identify where there is sufficient evidence to develop a comprehensive set of specific physical activity recommendations. The Committee will prepare a report to the Secretary that documents scientific background and rationale for the 2008 edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

The final scheduled meeting of the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee was held on February 28 and 29, 2008 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building, 200 Independence Avenue, SW; Washington, D.C., 20201. More information will be posted here shortly.

Please note that the charge to the Committee is to review and evaluate the scientific evidence relating physical activity to health outcomes for the general population and selected subgroups, such as youth, older adults, and persons with disabilities. The Committee's scope does not include evaluating means to increase physical activity among individuals or groups.
