Message from President George W. Bush on National Preparedness Month, 2005 |
|
I send greetings to all those observing National Preparedness Month.
During this year's National Preparedness Month, as we respond to and recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, we are reminded of the vital importance of being prepared to save lives, sustain lives, and provide comprehensive recovery efforts. Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility, and National Preparedness Month provides an opportunity for our citizens to learn about ways to prepare for all types of emergencies.
I appreciate the hard work of the good people at the Department of Homeland Security, Citizen Corps, and all our National's first responders who are committed to protecting and mobilizing our citizens. As you encourage Americans to be better prepared for emergencies, you help keep our Nation safe.
I urge individuals and communities across our country to prepare for emergencies and to support our first responders and Federal, State, and local agencies by volunteering with your local Citizen Corps council. For more information about the many ways you can prepare and help, visit www.ready.gov, www.fema.gov, and www.citizencorps.gov. By getting involved and staying informed, you help ensure the safety of yourself, your family, and our Nation.
Laura and I send our best wishes. May God bless you, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
George W. Bush
