Welcome to the Product Demonstration Showcase (PDS) project.

The purpose of the PDS is to advance the implementation of roadway and bridge technology in the municipal arena by providing decision makers a total, start to finish, unbiased, real-time project experience of field applied technologies and processes.

Our Showcase portfolio demonstrates a remarkable range of technologies including solutions implemented by enterprising local agencies. Each Showcase demonstrates both the realized, and future potential for substantial cost savings. Each Showcase provides for substantial interaction and each day concludes with a one hour open forum discussion. These are the most efficient, cost-effective information exchange opportunities you will ever experience. We know from previous Showcases that every one offers the potential to return your participation investment many times over. Take advantage of these remarkable opportunities and bring along your decision-making team. You won't be disappointed.

As part of the Marketing and Communications team, I am the lead FHWA Field Representative to the PDS. I work closely with both the Eastern (Florida) and Western Operation Center (Utah) in developing these PDS. It is my role to develop, pursue and deploy PDS. I have also been instructed to support the program financially when deemed appropriate through the Technology and Innovation Funding Program (TIFP). For a PDS to receive support from the TIFP, there are, there is certain criteria it must meet. It must be in national scope; it must be supported by the TST (Technical Service Team) leader, and have written approval from the AA of the program office in DC. Top priority will be given for MRTs but that is not to say others will not be considered. I work closely with our marketing staff to plan the PDS and to ensure all the key players are involved.

There have been several PDS that have benefited the TSTs. We have completed PDS for Safety and Design Team on Road Safety Audits, Geotech/Hydraulics Team on Geofoam. Currently we are in the planning stages of development for a PDS with Safety and Design Team on ADA Roundabouts, Operations Team on ACS Lite.

For more information on PDS please contact me, and visit the PDS website

WASHTO-X

A Tool for Technology Deployment

The WASHTO-X Program is a two- year pooled fund research study providing WASHTO State DOT's and the associated field offices of the Federal Highway Administration the opportunity to conduct monthly informal information exchanges among transportation personnel through Video communications. The study is patterned after the information exchange program of the TEL-8 Transportation Communication Network that is currently being sponsored by five core WASHTO State DOT's and four state universities.

The principal goal of this study is to provide low cost opportunities for other WASHTO State DOT's and FHWA field offices to participate in an expanded Video communications program featuring:

  • Information exchanges among transportation professionals, officials, universities, LTAP Centers and associates.
  • Peer exchanges on a variety of technical topics.
  • Transportation information exchanges on policy, program, and procedural topics and issues.

For more information and up coming scheduled programs, please visit the WASHTO-X website or contact Mark Sandifer, Resource Center – OF at 708-283-3528.
