NOAA SCIENCE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

Prior to the official SAB meeting, on Tuesday (January 26) and Wednesday (January 27), Board members were offered the opportunity to visit several NOAA and Cooperating Institute facilities including:
· The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the NOAA National Undersea Research Center in Key Largo,
· The NOAA Tropical Prediction Center,
· The NOAA/NMFS Southeast Laboratory,
· The NOAA/OAR Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, and
· The University of Miami RSMAS/CIMAS facilities.

0800-0830 h: Sign-in by all participants and audience
Registration for public verbal input to NOAA SAB
[NOTE - Registration is open to any interested individual, but is REQUIRED. Verbal public input will only be conducted during the period identified for public input, unless the Chair requests otherwise. Time limit for verbal input from any individual or group is 5 minutes, with follow-up questions and discussion by SAB if requested by the SAB Chair]

0830-0840 h: Official Call to Order and Review of Meeting Format

0840-0855 h: Introduction of the NOAA SAB Chair and Board Members and Opening Statement of the Chair
(Dr. Alfred Beeton, Chair - NOAA Science Advisory Board)

0855-0935 h: Welcoming remarks, review of purpose of the NOAA SAB, Update on FY99 NOAA science programs and budget.

0935-0950 h: Overview of NOAA science priorities for FY 2001 (Dr. Beeton)

0950-1020 h: Strategic Planning Team overview examples at a general level
(15 minutes each; handouts provided at meeting)
· Sustain Healthy Coasts, with focus on "Harmful Algal Blooms" (Margaret Davidson)
· Advance Short Term Weather Forecast Systems, with focus on "Hurricanes at Landfall" (Lou Uccellini)

1020-1100 h: Discussion on Strategic Planning related to science priorities

1115-1200 h: Public Input and Discussion Session
