Public Representatives Sought for Royalty Committee

DENVER – The Director of the Minerals Management Service (MMS) announced today that nominations are being sought for three representatives from the public-at-large to serve on the Department of the Interior’s Royalty Policy Committee (RPC).

The nominations, due by August 15, 2008, are for representatives from the general public who have a knowledge and interest in royalty issues. Representatives serve a three-year term on the RPC and receive travel expenses when participating in meetings, but are not compensated for their membership.

The RPC provides advice to the Secretary of the Interior on issues related to royalty management and other mineral-related policies and meets at least once a year at the request of the Director of the MMS. Committee members include representatives of states that receive mineral royalty revenues from Federal leases; representatives of American Indian Tribes and individual Indian mineral owners; representatives from industry; and up to three members who represent the public-at-large. Representatives of certain Federal agencies also serve as ex-officio, nonvoting members. Additional information about the RPC can be found at http://www.mrm.mms.gov/Laws_R_D/RoyPC/RoyPC.htm.

A Federal Register notice announcing the request for nominations, and how to submit a nomination, can be accessed via the web at http://www.mrm.mms.gov/Laws_R_D/FRNotices/PDFDocs/43784.pdf.
