Board Member Hyland Links GAC “Make an Impact!”  Theme to Outreach Task Force Efforts

Washington, DC, February 27, 2007 – Board Member Gigi Hyland spoke today before participants at CUNA’s 2007 Government Affairs Conference (GAC). Using a personal story about a gift from her father and the advice it represented, Hyland underscored the conference’s theme “Make an Impact!” and linked it to the work of NCUA’s Outreach Task Force which she chairs.

“NCUA has many opportunities to make an impact this year. The Outreach Task Force is one of them,” noted Hyland. “The task force is charged with reviewing the recommendations from the Member Service Assessment Pilot Program (MSAP) and suggesting to the NCUA Board what actions NCUA should take. Currently, the group is gathering information on the agency’s outreach efforts both at the national and regional levels. The next in-person task force meeting is this Thursday in Alexandria.”

In her remarks, Hyland urged GAC attendees to provide input into the Task Force’s work.

“There are many ways to be part of this process and all constructive input is welcome,” noted Hyland. ”Beginning in April, NCUA will host six public ‘town hall’ style meetings. The key purpose of these meetings is to gather input and ideas from credit unions, credit union leagues and other interested parties on the recommendations from NCUA’s MSAP.”

“Make an impact....it’s an opportunity that each of us has every day. I hope that your attendance and participation in this conference energizes you to be involved, lend your energy and make an impact on the millions of consumers who are your members,” concluded Hyland.

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates, charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), insuring the deposits of over 85 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions
