Howard Leight Industries (HLI) donates earplugs to the Alaska Native
Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, for their employees' safety
and health fair.
Hearing Aid Music Foundation distributes "Listen Smart," an educational
film on safe listening practices featuring Moby, Ozzy Osbourne,
Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Harry, Wyclef Jean, Linkin Park, and other
music celebrities, as well as teacher's aid booklets to educators.
Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers (H.E.A.R) and others
work to pass the earplug ordinance for San Francisco clubs.

WISE EARS!® at the Military Retiree Health Fair of the Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), Tacoma, Wash.
Laborers' Health and Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA) offers workshops on noise control and hearing conservation in construction at the12th annual Construction Safety and Health Conference and Expo, Rosemont, Ill.
House Ear Institute (HEI) distributes educational brochures and earplugs in 1500 grab bags at Modern Drummer's Drum Festival, Upper Montclair, N.J. They also collaborate with Shure Inc. to hold a benefit auction of autographed audio products on eBAY. The "Bid for Hearing" raises over $10,000 in support of the Sound Partners conservation program.
HEI sponsors a four-page "advertorial" on noise-induced hearing loss and current hearing research in the Los Angeles Times. Features on hearing health and conservation are published in Pro Sound News, The Record, the newsletter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and HEI's newsletter, House Calls. Print ads promoting conservation appear in Sound & Video Contractor, NSCA Show Daily, Live Sound! International, and Modern Drummer.

League for the Hard of Hearing (LHH) holds its seventh International Noise Awareness Day on April 24.
Sight & Hearing Association organizes free hearing screenings in 25 Minnesota cities and conducts a statewide media campaign for International Noise Awareness Day.
WISE EARS!® at the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), Philadelphia, Pa.
WISE EARS!® at the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), Reno, Nev.
WISE EARS!® at the 4-H Share Fair, Chevy Chase, Md. Materials on noise-induced hearing loss are distributed to 300 attendees from all 50 states and several U.S. territories. Adult volunteers receive information on how to organize a health fair in their area.
NIDCD mails letters of introduction about its efforts and the WISE EARS!® campaign to health education officers in all state public health offices and several U.S. territories. New York's health education officer orders 900 copies of materials for use by staff across the state.
House Ear Institute (HEI) offers conservation information, earplugs, and hearing screenings at the National Systems Contractors Association Expo, Denver, Colo. The event is co-sponsored by Shure Inc.

The second step, "Turn down the *!@# volume," discusses how continuous exposure to loud noises can cause permanent hearing damage and refers readers to the NIDCD for additional information.

Pontiac GMC, a division of the General Motors Corporation, joins forces with the National Campaign for Hearing Health (NCHH) to establish a hearing health awareness program at auto shows in Chicago, San Diego, Dallas, Cleveland, Kansas City, Mo., Minneapolis, New York City, and Atlanta in 2002.
House Ear Institute (HEI) distributes roughly 7,000 earplugs at post-Grammy Awards parties and the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards in Los Angeles. Grammy and CAS program books each carry an ad promoting hearing conservation to their members.
