Bridge Management

This group located in FHWA's Office of Asset Management and is responsible for providing technical and program assistance to other FHWA offices, and to our partners and customers in the development and implementation of comprehensive bridge management systems.

A bridge management software tool called Pontis was developed under an FHWA contract during the early 1990's. The software became and AASHTO product in 1994

The online training program " Referentia for PONTIS" is available and a revised version to reflect changes to Pontis is underdevelopment.

The group has also been active in developing guidance for managing other structural assets. A manual is available for procedures for inspecting tunnels along with one for techniques for maintaining tunnel components.

A software program is also available for assisting tunnel owners in collecting and tracking inspection and maintenance information.
