Service to America Medals
SAMMIES!

Service to America Medals text logoThe Department of Energy is pleased to announce nominations for the 2008 Service to America Medals or SAMMIES.  The “SAMMIES,” were created in 2002 by the Partnership for Public Service and Atlantic Media to honor federal employees who have made a significant contribution to our country. According to the program’s sponsors, there are many unsung heroes throughout the federal workforce who make a difference every day in their work; and it is a great privilege to salute them through the SAMMIES program. Nominations must be submitted online and are due by March 1, 2008. Nomination and eligibility requirements are available at: http://servicetoamericamedals.org/SAM/nominations/.  Self-nominations will NOT be accepted.

The Service to America Medals will honor those who have shown a strong commitment to public service and have demonstrated significant accomplishment within their government field that is innovative, high impact, and meets a critical need for the nation.

Award categories include:

  • Federal Employee of the Year Medal - Recognizing the best and brightest of the federal workforce.
  • Career Achievement Medal - Recognizing a lifetime of achievement in public service.
  • Call to Service Medal - Recognizing a significant contribution to the country as a recent entrant to the federal workforce.
  • Medals in Specific Government Fields - Several medals recognize nominees who have demonstrated significant accomplishments in the fields of Citizen Services; Science and Environment; Homeland Security; Justice; and National Security and International Affairs.

SAMMIES awardees are honored at an awards gala in Washington, DC. Awardees will also be profiled in several publications.  In addition, significant monetary prizes ($3,000-$10,000) are associated with the awards.
