Accounting Services provides a full range of financial and accounting services for a variety of HHS customers and other federal and non-federal agencies. These services include commitment and federal fund accounting, funds control, disbursement services, and financial reporting.

The Core Accounting System (CORE), an on-line real time mainframe application, is used to perform 'core' financial management functions for its customer agencies. The application meets federal financial management system requirements and applicable federal accounting and transaction standards. CORE accepts manual and electronic input, performs accounting edits and validations for the input, and produces accounting transactions for the general ledger and its subsidiary ledgers. It accounts for funded and unfunded costs, obligations, disbursements, advances, receivables, expense and revenue accrual, and the administrative control of funds. CORE output is available in hardcopy and electronic format, in concert with extensive on-line query capabilities. In addition, CORE reports can be accessed via the Web and the data downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet for local use.
