If you have any questions or concerns regarding these regulations for exporting animals or animal products to a foreign country, you should contact the APHIS-VS Area Office in the State from which the animals or products will be exported.


Peru - Summary of Requirements

The following protocols for exporting animals to Peru are available through the International Regulations Retrieval System (IRRS).

SPECIES - MOST RECENT UPDATE

Cattle
Effective December 24, 2003, cattle from the United States are banned due to a risk of BSE.

Horses

Sheep and Goats

Effective December 24, 2003, sheep from the United States are banned due to a risk of BSE

Wild ruminants
Effective December 24, 2003, cervids from the United States are banned due to a risk of BSE

Poultry and Other Avian Species

Please note: Peru has lifted the ban on the importation of poultry from the United States, except for the following States California, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Texas, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. Peru issues import permits for live poultry, fertilized eggs from States where Avian Influenza has not been present for the past two (2) years. Request protocols when requesting import permits. - July 2004

"Peru has no restrictions for the importation of grand-parent day-old chicks or hatching eggs from the United States of America."

For species not listed, the requirements are not known. However, exporters wanting to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed in the IRRS, should have the interested party (importer/buyer) in the country of destination apply for an Import Permit at the appropriate ministry. This Import Permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
