If you have any questions or concerns regarding these regulations for exporting animals or animal products to a foreign country, you should contact the APHIS-VS Area Office in the State from which the animals or products will be exported.
Australia - Summary of Requirements
Protocols for exporting animals to Australia are available from ICON, AQIS's import conditions database. It contains the Australian import conditions for more than 18,000 foreign plant, animal, mineral and human products. By selecting the following link, you will be leaving the APHIS web site. You may wish to print this page before leaving our site.
To search ICON:
Go to the Australian web site at: http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_querycontent.asp.
At the search page enter the following information in the appropriate fields:
- Commodity Name - use appropriate name (i.e., cattle, bovine embryos, bovine semen, horses, etc.)
- From Country - select "United States of America"
- For end use - select "All End Uses"
- Select the button "Search" and the database
will retrieve the information requested.

Aquaculture
- Brine shrimp - Eggs

- Finfish - Freshwater Fish (other than Salmonidae) - Live
Equine Semen
For species not listed, the requirements are not known. However, exporters wanting to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed in the IRRS, should have the interested party (importer/buyer) in the country of destination apply for an Import Permit at the appropriate ministry. This Import Permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.y
