International Projects

Two new CDMP international projects involve imaging and then keying surface observations taken by observers in Uruguay and the Dominician Republic. The goal is once these observations have been imaged, they will be keyed and these data will be added to international databases. These data should aid climate research and climate modeling activities. A Powerpoint presentation (13.3 MB) about the Uruguay Data Rescue Project is available.

Upper air data rescue projects are also underway in six African nations: Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger, Senegal, and Zambia. These countries have been provided with technology to image their data locally, and are sending these images to CDMP for keying and uploading to WSSRD.

CDMP is working in conjunction with United Kingdom collaborators in an effort to locate resources to image the marine logbooks in the British Archives. These images would eventually be transferred to CDMP for keying. CDMP is also working with the meteorological Service of Canada to key some of the previously un-keyed logbooks from their VOS program.
