June 18, 2001: the BTC stage is set for the visit by Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham. Behind the podium is an autoclave aerated concrete test wall built from flyash from a TVA coal-fired power plant. TVA and Babb International want to develop a building block that will recycle this waste material. On stage to the left is ORNL's new "drop-in" heat pump water heater, which could reduce U.S. energy consumption by 1%. To the right is the "Fridge of the Future," which was awarded 2nd place among the 23 most significant Energy 100 Awards.
