WARREN HALL NAMED CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER OF NOAA'S NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL SATELLITE, DATA, AND INFORMATION SERVICE

Warren Hall has been named chief financial officer/chief administrative officer for the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, an agency of the Commerce Department's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

NESDIS, the world's largest civil operational, environmental space organization, operates the nation's civil and military environmental satellites, as well as three data centers. It manages the world's largest collection of atmospheric, geophysical, and oceanographic data. The agency, headquartered in Silver Spring, Md., has facilities in Suitland, Md.; Wallops, Va.; Fairbanks, Alaska; Asheville, N.C.; and Boulder, Colo. It has a workforce of 1,350 and a current budget of $650 million. Hall is the senior advisor to NESDIS top management officials in the development of strategies to acquire and deploy resources in support of the overall agency mission.

Hall comes to NOAA from the Pentagon, where he was assistant deputy comptroller for the under secretary of defense. He was responsible for overseeing the operation of 100 senior analysts and members of the Senior Executive Service. Hall was with the Defense Comptroller's staff for 18 years. Before that, he served with the Office of the Navy Comptroller.

Hall holds a master's degree in economics from the State University of New York at Albany. He lives in Kensington, Md., with his wife, Susan. He has two children, Adam (29) and Joshua (26), and one grandson, Joey (3).
