Because of an estimated $68 million county budget shortfall, the King County Executive has directed the criminal justice system to take an "across-the-board" budget cut of 8.6% for 2009. The Executive predicts that this will be a multi-year problem with annual criminal justice cuts projected through 2012. These cuts threaten the quality of justice in King County and put public safety at risk.

 Sheriff Rahr

Sheriff Sue Rahr 
is a 28-year veteran of law enforcement.
She is King County's first female Sheriff.

With more than 1,000 employees, the King County Sheriff's Office serves the law enforcement needs of over half a million people in unincorporated areas and our 12 contract cities. The KCSO also provides police departments for the Muckleshoot Tribe, Metro Transit, and the King County International Airport.
