Biosketch:
Sergio Ojeda, D.V.M., is senior scientist and head of the Division of Neuroscience, Oregon National Primate Research Center and Professor of Cell & Developmental Biology, Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine. He received his D.V.M. degree from the University of Chile, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1968 and did his postdoctoral training in neuroendocrinology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas from 1972 to 1974. Dr. Ojeda's main area of research interest is in the neuroendocrine control of female sexual development. His research program focuses on the involvement of growth factors and transcriptional regulators in controlling both the maturation of the reproductive hypothalamus and differentiation of ovarian functions. Dr. Ojeda is a renowned scientist and educator who is widely published, well-funded, is a past and current member on numerous editorial boards as a reviewer and Associate Editor, and is a sought after lecturer at numerous national/international scientific convocations. His term on the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development (NACHHD) Council expires 11/30/2008. His areas of expertise include sexual development and puberty in humans and animals, ovarian development, biochemical endocrinology, developmental endocrinology, developmental neurobiology/molecular neurobiology, neuroendocrinology, reproductive endocrinology, cell culture/gene regulation/growth factors, and reproductive biology.
