About Science Conference Proceedings

The OSTI Science Conference Proceedings portal was devised to expedite access to conference papers and proceedings in various fields of science and technology. Emphasis is on U.S. conferences hosted and/or published by scientific and professional organizations whose areas of focus relate substantially to the Department of Energy's mission. This portal provides the capability to search for conference information on multiple web sites and databases with a single query utilizing a combination of surface web and deep web tools (specifically Distributed Explorit from Deep Web Technologies) that can reach where ordinary search engines cannot. Features include:

• A simple search capability. Enter the text you want to search for, check the sources you want to query, and click the "Search" button.
• An advanced search capability supporting searches on author, title, and date-ranges, as well as full-text of proceedings (where available). Enter the text you want to search for in the appropriate box, check the sources you want to query, and click the "Search" button.
• An option to display results by ranking or by source. The display by relevance ranking is the default. If you would like to display results by source, click on the "See Results by Source" button.

The DOE's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) provides free public access to the Science Conference Proceedings portal. The full text of any documents identified by a query are, in most cases, the property of the organization on whose site they are found and may be downloaded or purchased according to that organization’s policy.

• American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG): Queries at this site search the Search and Discovery online journal. Search and Discovery is an online journal for upstream energy (oil, gas, and energy minerals), linking new ideas, data, and technology related to the exploration and development of the various energy sources.
• American Chemical Society (ACS): Queries at this site search the ACS Personal Scheduler. The ACS Personal Scheduler is a searchable database that contains the entire program for national meetings. It includes symposium titles, paper titles, authors, abstracts, special events, and exhibitors. Its primary functionality is to search the technical program and non-technical events and save a personalized meeting itinerary for meeting attendees. An archive of past meetings is also available dating back to the 1998 Dallas National Meeting.
• American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA): The AIAA Electronic Library represents more than four decades of technical information and documents. Titles, authors, and full text may be searched.
• American Institute of Physics (AIP): AIP Conference Proceedings report findings presented at many of the most important scientific meetings around the world. Volumes from year 2000 forward are covered.
• American Meteorological Society (AMS): This search engine searches for abstracts, authors, and topics across AMS meetings and conferences. It only searches in simple search mode, permitting restriction by conference.
• American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE): The Civil Engineering Database (CEDB), which is provided at this site, is designed to provide easy bibliographic access to all ASCE publications. The database covers all the journals, conference proceedings, books, standards, manuals, magazines, and newspapers. Journal papers with abstracts go back to 1970. Non-abstract journal records go back to 1958. The book records are complete dating back to the early 1900s. Title, author and full text searching are allowed.
• American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME): Conferences may be searched by title, date and location. Papers may be searched by title, author/affiliation, and abstract words.
• Association for Computing Machinery (ACM): Using a simple search engine, access is provided to the full text of every article published by ACM, including 50 years of archives.
• Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI): Simple and advanced search options are available. Advanced search options include keyword, product type, program area, and date.
• Energy Citations Database (ECD): Energy Citations includes bibliographic records of literature in disciplines of interest to DOE such as chemistry, physics, materials, environmental science, geology, engineering, mathematics, climatology, oceanography, computer science and related disciplines. It includes citations to report literature, conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, and patents.
• Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE): You can search IEEE products by Title, Author/Editor, ISSN, ISBN, Product Number, Standard Number, or use Quick Search to look up keywords presented in IEEE Product Descriptions and Table of Contents as well.
• International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE): This search engine permits the user to search volumes by title, author/editor, technical interest area and date. It also permits query of papers by title, abstract, authors, and date.
• Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL): This site lists LANL conferences and workshops.
• National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL): This site hyperlinks to NETL conference proceedings from 1996 to present.
• National Nuclear Data Center (NNDC): A partial list of conferences and meetings of interest to users of the NNDC nuclear information services is provided. This list only includes those meetings which provide information via the World Wide Web. Past meetings are listed if the URL is still active and the meeting was held less than a year ago.
• Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC): The user can search for conferences by location and title, for papers by author, paper title, or conference.

The DOE Science Accelerator searches multiple science resources, including Science Conference Proceedings. These resources, developed by OSTI, reside in the deep Web where popular search engines cannot go. The DOE Science Accelerator provides a "deeper" search that yields results ranked by relevancy. This search may take a little longer, but returns more comprehensive, higher quality science information.
