Work Incentives Planning and Assistance Services

About M-PIC

The Mississippi Partners for Informed Choice (M-PIC) program provides Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) services funded by the Social Security Administration (SSA) under the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999. The purpose of M-PIC/WIPA is to enable all SSA beneficiaries with disabilities (including transition-to-work aged youth) to make informed choices about work.

Many people with disabilities who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may want to work but worry that working may cause a loss of cash benefits and/or Medicare or Medicaid. Community Work Incentives Coordinators working with the M-PIC program are available across the state to assist beneficiaries with disabilities, family members, and professionals with issues on SSA work incentives and on the federal rules governing national benefits programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF), HUD rental subsidy programs, Unemployment Insurance and Workers Compensation.

Our Team

M-PIC Staff is comprised of experienced and dedicated professionals who are not only technical experts on the complex Social Security disability benefits programs, but also are knowledgeable about other Federal, State and local programs and their effect on programs’ eligibility and benefits. The M-PIC team is trained by and credentialed by the Social Security Administration.

Our Services

M-PIC delivers individualized work incentives planning and assistance services to SSA’s beneficiaries with disabilities based on the individual’s personal preferences, interests, and goals. The goal of the M-PIC program is to better enable SSA’s beneficiaries with disabilities to make informed choices about work. Some of the services provided include, but are not limited to:

  • Work Incentives Planning: Information gathering, profiling, analysis and advisement; information and referral; problem solving and advocacy.
  • Work Incentives Assistance: Proactive work incentives monitoring and follow-up, support planning, and long-term intervention.
  • Counseling: Share expertise, support problem solving, foster the development of self-determination, and support informed choice and decision making.
  • Outreach: Provide information and referral, marketing and network building; providing training through community education programs and group counseling; work in cooperation with Federal, State, and private agencies and nonprofit organizations that serve beneficiaries with disabilities.
