Reach Out Now!
To
alert children, parents, and teachers about the dangers
of underage alcohol use and reinforce the message that
it is unacceptable at school and at home, SAMHSA is encouraging
national, state, and local leaders to conduct teach-ins
for fifth- and sixth-grade classrooms nationwide during
the week of April 3-7, 2006.
As a part of the Reach Out Now education program, SAMHSA
and Scholastic Inc. have provided school-based materials
on underage alcohol use prevention in time for Alcohol
Awareness Month each April, sending the materials to
fifth-grade teachers nationwide since 2002. Beginning
in 2004, similar materials also were sent to sixth-grade
classrooms nationwide.
