Members of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities are deeply saddened by the death of our Vice-Chairman, colleague and friend, Raymond Nasher. Ray was appointed to the President's Committee by President George H. W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, and President George W. Bush; his influence and leadership on national and international cultural affairs transcended politics . Ray believed in man’s best self and never lost hope that people of good will would someday join together to build a more peaceful world. His passion for collecting was about bringing art to people, and he chose to collect sculpture because it demanded to be looked at from all sides , bringing people to the art .

We will miss Ray Nasher but his lessons remain with us. We express our heartfelt sympathy to his family.
