| Collaboration with UNAIDSU.S. collaboration with key organizations includes a close partnership with the consortium of 10 United Nations agencies making up the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). In April 2004, the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, working with UNAIDS, the World Bank, and the U.K. Department for International Development (DfID), organized and co-chaired a meeting in Washington at which major donors and national partners considered and adopted key principles for supporting coordinated country-driven action against HIV/AIDS. These principles became known as the "Three Ones":
Rather than mandating that all contributors do the same things in the same ways, the Three Ones facilitate complementary and efficient action in support of host nations. Inherent in the principles is the shared recognition of the urgent need for action that supports inclusive national ownership and clear accountability. Since the adoption of the Three Ones, the U.S. has held technical meetings with UNAIDS and others to help ensure implementation of the principles at the country level. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
