TRANSGENIC MICE
MAKE HUMAN ANTIBODIES

Transgenic mice have been developed that produce antibodies identical to those made by humans, an advance that could open the door to development of treatments for viral infections, cancer, and chronic inflammatory diseases.(2) The breakthrough involved the insertion of a human gene into the mouse DNA, so the antibody is effectively human and theoretically will not be rejected by the host immune system. Testing in patients is planned. This Federally supported research was conducted by a biotechnology company in California.
