Marine Geophysical Data Access

GEODAS (GEOphysical DAta System) is an interactive database management system developed by the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) for use in the assimilation, storage and retrieval of geophysical data. GEODAS software manages several types of data including marine trackline geophysical data, hydrographic survey data, aeromagnetic survey data, and gridded bathymetry/topography.

GEODAS data sets of these digital databases have been released as a DVD-ROM sets by the National Geophysical Data Center, complete with user access software for Windows 95/98/NT, Macintosh OS-X and UNIX Xwindows. The GEODAS access software allows Searches and Downloads of GEODAS databases by geographic area, year of survey, institution, platform, cruise, or geophysical parameter. GEODAS Grid translation software allows creation of custom bathymetric/topographic grids with user-defined options for area, format, cell size, etc.

On-line versions of GEODAS allow free downloads of geophysical data. GEODAS Search and Data Retrieval gives access to the Marine Trackline Geophysics and NOS Hydrographic Surveys databases. GEODAS Grid Translator (Design-a-Grid) allows users to create and download custom grids of bathymetry/topography from ETOPO1 Worldwide Topography, US Coastal Relief Model and Great Lakes Bathymetry.

NGDC is pleased to accept contributions of geophysical data on almost any media, digital contributed data preferably in standard formats such as MGD-2000 Exchange Formats. Formats of the contributor's choice is acceptable provided that it is well documented. Any data received is in the international public domain, available to any interested individual or group.
