Michael Spencer obtained a B.S.Ed. in Exercise Science with a minor in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Georgia in 2000. In 2003 he received his M.Ed. in Health Promotion and Behavior from the University of Georgia. While completing his graduate work, he worked with the Southeast Regional Office of The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as part of a cooperative agreement studying highway safety and drunk driving.

After graduation, he was accepted into the Health and Human Services (HHS) Emerging Leaders Intern Program by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). During the two years it took to complete the program, he worked with several HHS organizations including the following: the NIH Clinical Center, the Administration on Aging, the Indian Health Service, the HHS Secretary's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and finally, NIEHS.

Spencer joined the Clinical Research Program in July of 2005 where he currently serves as the Clinical Program Coordinator/Manager. He serves as the project officer for the Clinical Research Support Contract and he has been heavily involved in the planning and development of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU). Spencer will be the CRU administrator once the facility is completed.
