One rodent production facility is currently under contract to provide B6C3F1 mice and six lines of transgenic mouse models for the NTP and NIEHS studies and investigators. Disease monitoring continues to be one of the priorities for laboratory animal management to ensure all rodents are pathogen free. A diagnostic laboratory, also under contract, provides support for disease monitoring of rodents in the production colonies and at the NTP testing laboratories. Initiated in 1980, the sentinel animal program serves as the monitoring program for disease surveillance at NTP testing laboratories. Additionally, genetic integrity of the rodents produced and used for the NTP studies is monitored under contract. Angela King-Herbert, D.V.M., D.A.C.L.A.M., leads the NTP Lab Animal Management Group within the Cellular and Molecular Pathology Branch. She earned her D.V.M. in 1984 at Tuskegee University. She served as Attending Veterinarian and Manager of Animal Biology at RJ Reynolds before joining NIEHS in 2004. |
