Biography

Maria I. Sifre, M.S., a Biologist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in the Research Triangle Park, NC, received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology from the University of Detroit in 1987 and 1989 respectively. In 1989, she started working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Pathology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. In 1991, she became a Research Assistant at Damon Clinical Laboratories/Harper Hospital/Wayne State University Medical School. She joined City of Hope National Medical Center/Beckman Research Institute as Research Associate on 1991, and in 1992 obtained certification as a Flow Cytometry Technician. In 1995, she became part of Abbott Healthcare Puerto Rico Diagnostic Operations as a Technical Support Scientist. In December 2003, Maria joined the Flow Cytometry Center at NIEHS, where she helps with the specialized flow cytometry instrumentation, and serves as a resource for the facility to the scientist and investigators at the Institute. In addition, Maria maintains a research interest in the various areas of apoptosis as well as designing and developing applications/protocols for multi-parameter flow cytometry.
