The SNS Target Building

The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) currently under construction at ORNL will bombard a mercury target with a 1.0-GeV proton beam to produce the world's most intense beams of pulsed neutrons for research.  The decay of mesons in the mercury target will also produce a flux of about 1015 neutrinos/s.  A project is currently being developed to untilize the world's most intense source of pulsed neutrinos to measure the cross sections for neutrino interactions with atomic nuclei.
