Board Member Hyland Participates in Credit Union Industry Podcast

Alexandria, VA, June 24, 2008 -National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board Member Gigi Hyland and her Senior Policy Advisor, Gary Kohn, yesterday participated in a podcast entitled “Current Issues in Credit Unions, Episode 27.” The podcast is a monthly, collaborative effort by four well-known credit union attorneys to discuss issues facing the credit union system.  Hosts of the podcast include Robert Rutkowski of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A.; Hal Scoggins of Farleigh, Wada, and Witt; Katherine Weber of Messick & Weber, P.C.; and Faith Anderson of American Airlines Federal Credit Union. This is the second time that Hyland and Kohn have participated in the group’s podcast series.

“We were pleased to be using podcast technology to reach out to a wider segment of the credit union system and the public,” noted Board Member Hyland. “We discussed a wide range of new issues different from those we addressed on our first appearance two years ago. The format is fairly informal, but filled with valuable discussion, debate and insight from four very experienced, knowledgeable credit union attorneys. It was a pleasure to participate again.”

During their remarks, Board Member Hyland and Kohn discussed the recently passed data collection proposal that was part of the Outreach Task Force recommendations; disaster recovery plans in the wake of the recent flooding in the Midwest; intellectual property due diligence, as well as the broader issue of effective third party due diligence; a look at Member Business Loans today and in the future; and, positive things for the credit union system to look forward to in the next five years.
