WASHINGTON, April 25, 2008 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and
Inspection Service (FSIS) today announced a public meeting that is being co-sponsored with the
Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)
and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
to discuss strategies on improved information sharing and coordination during multi-jurisdictional
foodborne outbreak investigations.
The public meeting will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Renaissance St. Louis
Grand and Suites Hotel, 800 Washington Avenue, St. Louis, Mo., 63101.
The U.S. food supply is becoming increasingly complex and foodborne illness investigations more often involve
multiple agencies and jurisdictions. Additionally, significant advances in epidemiologic and laboratory
surveillance have allowed for a more rapid identification of foodborne outbreaks that lead to coordinated
investigations. Efficient information sharing and coordination among all stakeholders is critical to the
success of foodborne illness investigations.
Local, state and federal public health partners as well as consumer groups and industry are invited to
share their perspectives on best practices and challenges to effective coordination during multi-jurisdictional
outbreaks.
Individuals are encouraged to pre-register to attend the meeting, and should visit www.fsis.usda.gov.
The agenda and other related information will be available prior to the meeting on the FSIS Web site at
https://webarchive.library.unt.edu/eot2008/20080917204143/http://www.fsis.usda.gov/ News_&_Events/Meetings_&_Events/index.asp.
