Design Certification Application Review -
U.S. Evolutionary Power Reactor (U.S. EPR)

The U.S. Evolutionary Power Reactor (U.S. EPR) is an evolutionary pressurized-water reactor (PWR), designed by AREVA Nuclear Power. It is a four-loop plant with a rated thermal output of 4,500 MWt. The U.S. EPR design features four redundant trains of emergency cooling equipment, and a containment and shield building for added protection.

By letter dated December 11, 2007, as supplemented by letters dated February 7 and February 20, 2008, AREVA submitted an application for certification of the EPR standard design, pursuant to Title 10, Part 52, of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR Part 52), "Licenses, Certifications, and Approvals for Nuclear Power Plants." By letter dated February 25, 2008, the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) docketed the application and subsequently published its detailed review schedule on March 26, 2008. To review available documents related to AREVA's U.S. EPR Design Certification and pre-application activities, please use the Advanced Web Search feature of our Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS), and enter PROJ0733 or 05200020 in the "Docket Number" field.
