FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UPDATE
Payette National Forest Road Closures

South Fork Salmon River Road

The SF Salmon River Road will be closed between Goat Creek and Indian Creek until November 1, 2008.   Depending on project progress, there is a possibility that the road will be open between Goat Creek and Phoebe Creek with 20 minute delays at Goat Creek from October 15 to October 30, 2008.

Phoebe, Sister, Indian and Buckhorn Bar Creek culvert replacements began earlier this summer.  The Sister Creek culvert has been replaced.  Currently, the contractor is replacing the Buckhorn Bar Creek culvert with other replacements scheduled to be completed this fall.

East Fork Road between McCall and Yellow Pine

Forest Service contractors will be replacing culverts with a bridge at Reegan Creek and a pipe arch at Deadman Creek this fall.  The contractor will provide a work schedule within a couple of weeks.  The Forest Service expects the East Fork Road to be closed at Deadman and/or Reegan Creek between mid-September and November 1, 2008.  There will be no vehicular passage around the construction sites during this closure.

The East Fork Bridge will be reconstructed during the summer of 2009.  The contract is expected to start once the Johnson Creek Road opens after the 2009 spring thaw.  The Forest Service expects the East Fork road to be closed at the bridge from mid-June to September 30, 2009.  Motorists will be encouraged to use Johnson Creek to access the Yellow Pine area.  There will be no vehicular passage around the construction site during this closure.

The Forest Service and Valley County met on August 13, 2008 and developed a plan for the temporary repair of Parks Creek.  The County will be removing the plugged culvert, installing a temporary bridge, and directing the stream under the bridge.  The Forest Service will be conducting stream restoration downstream of the road crossing.  The Forest Service expects that the road will be closed for one day between August 25 and 27.  There will be no vehicular passage around the construction site during this closure.

Smokey Boulder Road (FS Road # 74)

The Forest Service expects the Cold Springs Creek culvert installation to close the Smokey Boulder Road starting September 2, 2008 for 3 weeks.  Located in the New Meadows Ranger District, motorists may access the road via the south using road #74 or #102.  Huckleberry Road may also be used to bypass the closure.  Pollock Mountain trailhead will be accessible via the Smokey Boulder Rd at Round Valley Rd.

Warren Wagon Road between McCall and Warren

Forest Service contractors recently completed work to replace culverts at Long Gulch, Hoodoo Creek, Chinook Campground, and Arlise Gulch.  The road is now open.
