List
of resources to help you find products, data, and information
from the PSB site.
- Soundings - A sounding, for our use, is a vertical atmospheric temperature
or moisture profile derived from radiances measurements. The
radiance measurements are from a variety of instruments flown
on weather satellites. NESDIS currently generates soundings from
geostationary and polar weather satellites.
- Ozone - produce products that are generated from the SBUV/2
(Solar Backscattered Ultraviolet Radiometer/Version 2). TheSBUV/2
is a non-scanning, nadir viewing instrument designed to measure
scene radiance in the spectral region from 160 to 400 nm. SBUV
data
are used to determine the vertical distribution of and total
ozone in the atmosphere, and solar spectral irradiance.
- PPP - The Pre-Product Processing produces the Polar Level 1B
orbital products for the instruments on the POES spacecrafts.
Instrument data is ingested, calibrated and Earth location data
is applied to produce the 1B data set.
- EPS - The
Environmental Products System area of the Products Systems
Branch of the Information Processing Division is responsible
for a number of environmental datasets and images derived from
the NOAA polar orbiting satellites.
- Winds - The
WINDS product area is so named for the primary product derived
from GEOSTATIONARY (GOES) satellite images, i.e., cloud drift
winds.
- Images - Operational
image products are generated from the Advanced Very High Resolution
Radiometer (AVHRR)
Global Area Coverage (GAC) data recorded on the NOAA polar orbiting
satellites.
- SPP
- The US Air
Force, US Navy, and NOAA participate in a interagency program
referred to as the Shared Processing
Program (SPP).
The term "Shared Processing" has been applied to
the sharing of data, products and associated information derived
from the polar environmental satellite programs of the DOD's
Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP), and NOAA's
Polar Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) program.

- MODIS - The
purpose of the NOAA MODIS project is to design and provide the
National Weather Service (NWS) with near-real-time MODIS weather
products for the continental USA AM1 Satellite, continental USA
PM1 Satellite, Alaska, and Hawaii.
- Clavr-x - The NOAA National Environmental
Satellite, data, and Information Services (NESDIS) Extended Clouds from AVHRR
(Clavr-x) is a processing system used to detect clouds at the pixel level in the
AVHRR data and to derive needed cloud properties
