Psychiatric provider purchases Cambridge hospital
On Sept. 4, Governor Ted Strickland, officials at the Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH), and leaders from Oglethorpe Inc., announced Oglethorpe’s purchase of Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare, Cambridge Campus, the recently-closed psychiatric hospital campus in Guernsey County. Match Funds for the Continuum of Care/Department of Housing and Urban Development Program Available
ODMH will once again consider participating in 2008 Continuum of Care projects by contributing match funding. This match funding provides additional monies for homeless housing programs - specifically projects with acquisition, rehabilitation, rehabilitation, and/or new construction costs as long as the proposed project targets persons experiencing mental illness. Updated Cultural Competence Report Targets Somali Population
On Aug. 12, Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence (MACC) released its 2008 “Learning Your Needs” Cultural Competence Needs Assessment Report, which features new mental health information on the Somali community. ODMH helped fund the study to guide the behavioral health care system toward improving services for minority populations. Adult Care Facilities Awards
ODMH has awarded funds to assist operators of existing licensed Adult Care Facilities (ACFs) serving a significant percentage of persons with severe and persistent mental illness with facility environmental expenses and improvements. Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services Report
"Recommendations to improve access to child and adolescent psychiatric services in Ohio: A report by the Statewide Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services Action Task Force" (PDF, 5.82 MB) describes a process to help local communities improve the availability of psychiatric services and ensure that needed professionals are in place. Plans are underway to integrate this critical strategy as part of transformational activities designed to improve the mental health workforce.
