President George W. Bush nominated Kevin I. Fromer to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury on June 6, 2005.  The United States Senate unanimously confirmed him on July 29, 2005 and he was sworn into office on August 22, 2005.  As Assistant Secretary, he serves as the Department’s senior adviser to the Secretary on matters before the United States Congress.

Mr. Fromer has had a long career of service in the Congress, totaling 23 years in leadership, committee, and personal staff roles.  Prior to joining Treasury, he served for over three years as an Assistant to the Speaker for Policy, in the Office of the Speaker, J. Dennis Hastert.  Mr. Fromer managed budget and appropriations policy, helping to develop and coordinate policy decisions on numerous pieces of budget legislation, in conjunction with House and Senate leadership offices, various committees and the executive branch.

From 1993 to 2002, Mr. Fromer served as chief of staff to U.S. Representative Harold Rogers (KY).  From 1988 to 1993, he was an associate staff member of the House Appropriations Committee, and served as the principal Republican staff for the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, State and the Judiciary, under Ranking Member Rogers.  He began his Capitol Hill career in 1982, serving in a variety of legislative staff positions, with a major focus on the budget and appropriations process.

Mr. Fromer earned his B.A. from the University of Virginia and is a native of Fairfax, Virginia.
