Camp Hosts Needed for Pfeiffer Big Sur CA

Description: This is a unique opportunity for the right person or couple to camp host and enjoy some of the most magnificent, rugged coastline in the world! Expect specatular waterfalls, majestic redwood forests, miles of hiking trails, crystal clear waters, and abundant wildlife. You will be nestled in a remote, small community along scenic Hwy 1, with moderate temperature year-round. Big Sur has been described as a spiritual center, and is a source of inspiration for artists and naturalists worldwide. Hwever, this may not be the ideal arrangement if you have a large RV or trailer due to the limits of narrow, winding Hwy 1. A minimum 20 hours per week for at least a 3 month commitment is requested. Typical camp host duties include cash handling, firewood sales, staffing the Visitor's Center, interpretation, light maintenance, conducting whale watches, assisting park staff, and campground checks. In addition, you will be asked to share your own special skills, interests and talents. A uniform is provided. Your campsite includes water and electrical hook-ups. Sewer service is a once a week pump out. The city of Monterey is approximately 1 hr drive away. Camp Host positions are available year-round in three CA State Parks in Big Sur: Andrew Molera, Julia Pfeiffer Burns and Pfeiffer Big Sur. Each unique park provides a different experience. I am most interested in folks who are available this summer. Immediate openings available. Description: Needed: An individual with a keen since of organization and love of history to organize a collection of 35mm slides and photographs. Ice Harbor Lock and Dam in Burbank, WA has a large collection of historical 35mm slides and photographs that need to be archived. These pictures contain the history of Ice Harbor Lock and Dam Project ranging from its construction, the inner workings of the turbines, the recreational areas, the wildlife areas, as well as the folks who have come and gone and left their imprint on the area. Time is passing and these records of history are fading away. Someone who is familiar with scanners and computers would be an asset but we are willing to train.

Description: Make History Come Alive: Celebrate the World's Greatest Inventor Edison National Historic Site, part of the National Park Service, offers volunteers unique opportunities to preserve and interpret the home and laboratory of Thomas A. Edison. To showcase these opportunities, we will host special programs on Sept. 17 and Sept. 26, 2008. Both programs are free and you can participate in either one or both programs. You don't have to be a current volunteer to attend. Lunch will be provided on both dates. Sept. 17, 10am to 3pm - "Thomas Edison and the Business of Inventing" Featured speakers: University of Virginia historian Bernie Carlson, President of the Edison Innovation Foundation John Keegan, and Edison NHS Archivists Lenny DeGraaf and Ed Wirth. Sept. 24, 10am to 4pm - "Victorians and the Edison Era" Featured speakers: Curator of Decorative Arts at the Newark Museum Ulysses Dietz, author of women's domestic culture Laura Schenone, and Drew University Historic Preservation Professor Marta McDowell. Eastern States Expo - MACD Exhibit Booth Workers Needed

Description: Eastern State Exposition (Big E) Massachusetts Conservation Districts (MACD) Exhibit Booth. Volunteers are needed to man the MACD Booth. Entry passes and parking is provided. Knowledge of gardening and plants preferred, but not required. Must be comfortable interacting with people and standing for sustained periods of time. Volunteers can choose between morning shift - 10 am to 3:30 pm or afternoon shift - 3:30 pm to 9 pm. Big E starts on 9/12/08 and ends 9/28/08.
