Nuclear Engineering and Science Education Recruitment Program
This program is designed to increase the number of students entering a university nuclear engineering course of study by developing a core curriculum to instruct high school science teachers in nuclear science and engineering topics through the use of teaching modules, teacher workshops and other outreach activities.
Our primary vehicles for achieving our objectives in recruitment are the conducting of Teacher Workshops throughout the country with the assistance of the American Nuclear Society members who volunteer their time to instruct high school teachers throughout the Nation in the principles of nuclear engineering and science. This enables them to communicate this knowledge to other teachers and their students. In addition, a series of modules on computer disk with associated books and learning tools/experiments are being made available to school districts in many parts of the Nation for use in advanced level high school classes (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.). This learning tool is, typically, introduced into the classroom during a two week period in the spring semester when the students learn about various energy technologies.
