It’s kind of sad when you have to blow your own horn. When you have to "lead a focused initiative to ensure that people with disabilities are offered equal employment opportunities"... then they are not equal opportunities. When I am forced by an "initiative" to give you preferance, then it is not longer equal.

My sun is in a wheelchair and we know and he knows that he is different and that he cannot do the same exact things that his dad can do. He won’t ever run and jump hurdles competitively so why do I want the track team to give him an "equal opportunity"? It’s physical! Would you challenge my son to a game of tackle football in the spirit of being "fair"? The answer is NO! Now is he artistic? Yes. Is he great at math and science? Yes. Can he dunk a basketball? NO!

My point is yes we have to look past the disability, past the skin color, past the gender, etc... but we still have to hire the appropriate and most skilled person for the job and not just seek out the minority due to some "initiative or quota".

From someone who knows and sees the struggle daily,
Cor
