Civil Rights

The NRC’s Civil Rights Program provides for the prompt, fair, and impartial processing of discrimination complaints filed under Titles VI, VII, and IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), as amended; the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehab Act), as amended; the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA), as amended; Executive Order 11478, “Equal Employment Opportunity in the Federal Government of 1969,” as amended; and Title II, Section 401, of the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974, as amended. A primary goal of the Civil Rights Program is to eliminate or modify procedures and practices that give rise to valid complaints filed under these statutes.

The NRC’s employment discrimination complaint process is administered in accordance with the regulations of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) exit icon, as defined in Title 29, Part 1614, of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR 1614). The discrimination complaint process is available to agency employees, former employees, and applicants for employment with the NRC, who believe that they have been subjected to discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age (40 and over), or mental or physical disability, or reprisal for participation in or opposition to an activity that is protected by the civil rights statutes. The text of the laws enforced by the EEOC (Title VII, ADEA, Rehab Act, and EPA) may be accessed through the EEOC Web site.

The NRC's discrimination complaint process for complaints filed under Title VI and Title IX is administered in accordance with the regulations of the U.S. Department of Justice exit icon.
