Bankruptcy Assistance Desk

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, in conjunction with the Chicago Bar Association and the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, has established a Bankruptcy Assistance Desk offering free legal advice to parties without lawyers.

The Bankruptcy Assistance Desk is located in room 622 on the 6th floor of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse, 219 South Dearborn Street, Chicago, Illinois. Due to recent and impending staff changes, the desk will be operating on reduced hours until further notice.

The Bankruptcy Assistance Desk will have an attorney available to consult with customers who arrive by 9:45 am and have extreme emergency situations every day the courthouse is open.

It is also anticipated that the desk will be open at the normal hours (9:30 am to 12:30) at least two and possibly three days a week, depending on the availability of volunteer attorneys.

No appointment is necessary.
