Development

Future development of HURSAT data will likely include other satellite data sets. Contact NCDC if you are interested in any of the following data sets or if you think HURSAT could be applied to other satellite data. For more details on some of the proposed data sets, see the comparison chart.

HURSAT-AVHRR

Sample HURSAT-AVHRR BD image

The HURSAT-AVHRR would derive from NOAA's Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer and would balance the weaknesses of the HURSAT-B1 data. Specifically, the spatial resolution would be 4km which would allow the application of techniques such as the Objective Dvorak Technique. Also, all observations would be from one instrument (as opposed to a variety of instruments in the B1 record). However, the temporal resolution would be limited to 2 to 4 observations per day, depending on the satellite configuration.

HURSAT-GEO

The HURSAT-GEO data would provide full resolution data from geostationary satellites. For GOES satellites, that would be 4km for the infrared and 1km for the visible channels.
