NMFS Regional Offices

The Regional Offices provide management and policy leadership. At these web sites, you may find management plans, status reports, regulations/rules, permit information, regional reports, etc.

  Alaska Regional Office
The Alaska Region is one of the National Marine Fisheries Service's five regional offices located throughout the United States. Its programs assess, manage, and promote the conservation of living marine resources in the coastal oceans off Alaska and off parts of the west coast of the United States.

  Northeast Regional Office
The Northeast Region is one of the National Marine Fisheries Service's five regional offices. Its programs assess, manage, and promote the conservation of living marine resources off the coast of the northeastern region of the United States.

  Northwest Regional Office
The Northwest Region is one of the NOAA Fisheries' five regional offices located throughout the United States. Its programs assess, manage and promote the conservation of living marine resources in the Pacific Northwest.

  Pacific Island Regional Office
¿The Pacific Islands Region (PIR) supports Hawaii and the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands. The PIR is physically located at 1601 Kapiolani Boulevard, Suite 1110, Honolulu, Hawaii 96814. One of the most important functions of PIR is to maintain effective communications and coordinate closely in the many related programs that the NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) and PIR share in this geographical area.

  Southeast Regional Office
The Southeast Region is one of the NOAA Fisheries' five regional offices located throughout the United States. Its programs assess, manage and promote the conservation of living marine resources in the eight coastal states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, the inland states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Tennessee, as well as the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  Southwest Regional Office
The Southwest Region is one of NOAA Fisheries' five regional offices located throughout the United States. Its programs assess, manage, and promote the conservation of living marine resources in the Southwestern United States and Islands of the Pacific Ocean.


NMFS Science Centers

The Science Centers (such as NWFSC) do research and provide the scientific advice on which policy established by the Regional Offices is based.

  Alaska Fisheries Science Center
The Alaska Fisheries Science Center is the research branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service responsible for fisheries research in the coastal oceans off Alaska and off parts of the west coast of the United States.

  Northeast Fisheries Science Center
The Northeast Fisheries Science Center is the research arm of NOAA Fisheries in the northeastern region of the United States. The Center plans, develops, and manages a multidisciplinary program of basic and applied research to: (1) better understand living marine resources of the Northeast Continental Shelf Ecosystem from the Gulf of Maine to Cape Hatteras, and the habitat quality essential for their existence and continued productivity; and (2) describe and provide to management, industry, and the public, options for the conservation and utilization of living marine resources, and for the restoration and maintenance of marine environmental quality.

  Northwest Fisheries Science Center
The mission of the NWFSC is to provide the scientific basis for NOAA Fisheries' stewardship of the Pacific Northwest's living marine resources and their habitats.

  Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center
¿The Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The Center administers scientific research and monitoring programs that support the domestic and international conservation and management of living marine resources.

  Southeast Fisheries Science Center
The Southeast Fisheries Science Center conducts multi-disciplinary research programs to provide management information to support national and regional programs of NOAA Fisheries; and to respond to the needs of Regional Fishery Management Councils, Interstate and International Fishery Commission, Fishery Development Foundations, government agencies and the general public.

  Southwest Fisheries Science Center
The Southwest Fisheries Science Center is the research arm of the NOAA Fisheries' Southwest Region. The Center consists of three laboratories - they are located in California at La Jolla (headquarters), Pacific Grove and Santa Cruz.
