Monster Seminar Jam Series
The Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Department of Commerce (DOC) is a government agency charged with the mission of stewardship for living marine resources.
Since April of 2001, the weekly Monster Seminar JAM (MSJ) Series at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center has provided training for Center scientists, in topics, methods, approaches and techniques in modern Conservation Biology. The MSJ is analogous to an academic departmental seminar series. Presentations focus on a variety of research fields such as landscape ecology, community ecology, genetics, wildlife biology, systematics, marine ecology, conservation biology, population biology and numerical modeling. Demonstrated applications included recovery planning, design of marine protected areas, fisheries management, marine mammal conservation, stock assessment, anthropogenic impacts on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, policy and decision making, and sociopolitical and socioeconomic impacts of management actions.
By welcoming all interested NMFS, NOAA, and academic entities, as well as the general public, the weekly MSJ is a critical component of the Center's production, presentation, and facilitation of science. The MSJ also serves as the catalyst for collaborations between past speakers and Center scientists.
