Tours
Private guided tours are available for people high-school age and older, including university groups. Make an appointment for a private tour. or see the Education Office Guided Tours page for more information.
Public Tours are regularly held on the first Sunday of the month (see Ask-a-Scientist below), and on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Be sure to check the calendar of tours and special events to confirm dates.

Ask-a-Scientist program on selected Sunday afternoons
Questions about Fermilab? About physics? Take your science questions straight to the experts. Once a month Fermilab offers special behind-the-scenes tours of its facilities. From the magnet factory to the accelerator complex to the neutrino experiments, we show visitors the hidden treasures of our site on a special tour. Throughout the program physicists answer questions and explain everything from the Higgs boson and the Big Bang to how a particle accelerator works. Check our recent announcements for the next tour.

Lederman Science Center
The Lederman Science Center offers hands-on science exhibits designed for students in grades 6-8. It is open to the public Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on some holidays. (Please call in advance to check on holidays.) Groups of six or more must book a visit by calling (630) 840-8258.

Field trips
High school groups: Groups of 10-60 students are welcome. Please see the Education Office Guided Tours page for more information.
Middle and elementary school groups: Physical science and prairie ecology field trips are available for students in grades 3-8. Teachers must participate in a field trip program workshop before bringing their students. More information is available under "Field Trips, Study Units & Workshops on the Education Office Educators page.
Homeschooling groups should call Nancy Lanning at 630-840-5588 to set up a visit.

Buffalo viewing and prairie trails
If permitted by the current security conditions, visitors to the lab can walk along a couple of prairie trails near the Pine Street entrance (west side of the lab). Visitors are also welcome to view Fermilab's herd of about sixty buffalo seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. mid-October to mid-April and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. when daylight hours are longer. Driving is restricted to roads within the public area. Visitors may enter from the Batavia Rd. or the Pine St. entrance. Inform the security guard that you plan to view the buffalo, and you will be given map.

Public Affairs
Designed to aid visitors, the Office of Public Affairs, located on the east side of the first floor of Wilson Hall, has free literature about various aspects of the Laboratory.

Wilson Hall
If permitted by the current security conditions, visitors to the laboratory are welcome to visit the ground floor and atrium of Wilson Hall, the 16-story administrative building. The atrium offers an exhibit, a cafeteria and an information desk. The floors 2 to 16 are closed to the public. To take a tour of the 15th-floor viewing area, please sign up for a guided tour (see information above).
