Mental Health Action Plan Meeting Held

The first meeting of the Federal Executive Steering
Committee on Mental Health convened at the end of January.
A. Kathryn Power, M.Ed., Director of SAMHSA's Center
for Mental Health Services; SAMHSA Administrator Charles
G. Curie, M.A., A.C.S.W.; and Mark B. McClellan, M.D.,
Ph.D., Administrator of the Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services, joined committee members from other
Federal agencies in discussions.
The committee will oversee the implementation of action
items across Federal agencies as outlined in SAMHSA's
Transforming Mental Health Care in America-The Federal
Action Agenda: First Steps, released in July 2005.
SAMHSA's Action Agenda was informed by recommendations
from the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental
Health.
The committee will provide general direction, monitor,
and report on the Federal Government's progress. The
next meeting will be held in July 2006.
