NOAA’S Gerry E. Studds Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary Seeks Applicants for Advisory Council Seats

July 29, 2008

NOAA’s Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is seeking applicants for one primary position on the council’s conservation seat and one alternate position on its advisory council.  Alternates attend meetings when members are not available, are encouraged to attend other meetings and may apply for the member seat if a member resigns.

The advisory council’s 17 voting members and six ex-officio members represent a variety of local stakeholder groups and the public. Council members serve in a volunteer capacity for two- or three-year terms, pursuant to the council’s charter. The council was established in March 2001 to assure continuous public participation in the management of the sanctuary.

Applicants will be selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seats for which they are applying. Consideration includes knowledge of the resources, community and professional affiliations, residency in the sanctuary area and views regarding the protection and management of marine resources.

To receive an application kit or for further information please contact Elizabeth Stokes at 781-545-8026, ext. 201, via e-mail at Elizabeth.Stokes@noaa.gov, or by writing to: Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, 175 Edward Foster Road, Scituate, MA 02066. Completed applications should be mailed to the same address and must be received by Sept. 15, 2008.
