Reasonable Accommodations Information Aid For Applicants
What is a reasonable accommodation? An adjustment or alteration that enables a qualified individual with a disability to apply for a job, perform essential job duties, or enjoy benefits and privileges of employment.
Who is eligible for a reasonable accommodation? Applicants for employment are eligible to receive a reasonable accommodation.
What are the submission procedures to use in requesting a reasonable accommodation?
The Applicant must:
- Submit a request for reasonable accommodation orally or in writing.
If the request is made orally, it must be confirmed using the Request for Reasonable Accommodation Form.
This request can be submitted at any time, in connection with the application and hiring processes to the Human Resources
Specialist identified on the vacancy announcement, or the district Human Resources Consultant or to the Disability Accommodations Coordinator,
or to any OCC employee he or she officially comes in contact with during the application or selection process.
(Special Note: Someone other than the applicant may submit an accommodation request on the applicant’s behalf);
- If the disability is not obvious, submit medical documentation related to the disability. This documentation must be signed by an appropriate medical professional or disability certifying agency on their stationary and must describe or certify the disability and need for an accommodation;
- If necessary, participate in ongoing communications with OCC personnel to assist in finding and providing an effective accommodation or solution.
What is the process for approving requests for reasonable accommodation?
Determinations on requests for reasonable accommodation will be made on case-by-case basis. The OCC will render a decision and process requests for reasonable accommodations in the shortest time frame practicable. The Disability Accommodations Coordinator, in consultation with appropriate agency personnel, will approve or deny the applicant’s accommodation request.
Where can I get more information?
The OCC is not required to provide the specific accommodation identified by the Applicant, but will make every effort to provide the most effective solution to assist the person in applying for a job or in performing the essential functions of his or her job.
